Q. How much does Joey's Seafood and Grill® franchise cost?
A. The cost to open a new franchise varies with each location. An estimate of these costs is provided on our Start-up Costs page.
Q. In addition to the initial franchise fee, what ongoing payments am I required to make during the term of the Franchise agreement?
A. You are required to make the following payments on an ongoing basis during the term of the Franchise agreement:
a) A monthly royalty fee of 4.5% of gross sales.
b) A monthly advertising fee of 2% of gross sales
c) Annual intranet maintenance and administration Fee, currently $200.00
Q. How much non-borrowed capital must I have initially?
A. We recommend you have at least 30% of the opening cost in liquid assets to apply toward the restaurant. The balance of the development cost can usually be financed through various lending programs of any chartered bank, subject to fulfillment of their qualifying criteria.
Q. Can I be an absentee owner?
A. Yes, but it is desirable that the day-to-day manager hold a 20% or greater interest in the franchise.
Q. Is prior experience necessary?
A. No, a Joey's Seafood and Grill franchise owner need not have previous restaurant experience. Joey's Seafood and Grill USA looks for individuals with an understanding of general business principles, a satisfactory financial rating, and the ability to invest in and support a restaurant.
Q. Must I lease directly from a landlord or may I have my own building?
A. You may do either of these provided the site plan and building have been approved by Joey's Seafood and Grill USA.
Q. Will I need a lawyer?
A. We strongly recommend that you receive legal counseling to completely understand your obligations in owning a franchised business.
Q. May I purchase some of my equipment and products from suppliers other than Joey's Seafood and Grill preferred suppliers?
A. Yes, but these suppliers must first have the approval of Joey's Seafood and Grill USA and abide by the product specifications.
Q. What happens after I am approved as a Joey's Seafood and Grill franchisee?
A. When an application is approved for a Joey's Seafood and Grill franchise, the applicant is issued a Franchise Agreement, which requires a designated retail area in which the restaurant is to be located. Upon approval of the location and building plans, construction begins. Equipment purchasing, license agreements and other finishing details will be ongoing during the four week training program. The last step will be on-site training of your personnel with our qualified support staff.
Q. With restaurants in the United States and Canada, is there an opportunity for me to open a Joey's Seafood and Grill in another country?
A. We are considering opportunities beyond our current range but we must maintain our high quality supply links and the strength of our support network to our Franchisees. If we can be assured our standards will not be compromised, we will consider locations worldwide.
